The awards, hosted by BBC Radio 1\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Clara Amfo<\/strong>&nbsp;and broadcaster&nbsp;<strong>Rhianna Dhillion<\/strong>, will be streamed on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpodcastawards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">British Podcast Awards<\/a>&nbsp;website on Saturday 11th July at 7.30pm, with the results also announced on their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/britpodawards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To see all of the categories and fantastic finalists, just head to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpodcastawards.com\/nominations-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>. To have a look at the standings as of the 1st July, head to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britishpodcastawards.com\/blog\/2020\/7\/1\/current-listener-choice-standings\" target=\"_blank\">their\u200b website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are notable guests on podcasts this week:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Frank Turner<\/strong>&nbsp;is one of the latest guests on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/folk-on-foot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Folk on Foot<\/a>,&nbsp;a podcast where musicians talk about the landscape around them and what inspires them to create music.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1508581977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ruck My Life<\/a>&nbsp;podcast, which features LGBTQ+ rugby players and how inclusive teams are being shaped throughout the world, features rugby player&nbsp;<strong>Tom Bird Jones<\/strong>&nbsp;in a recent ep.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/audioboom.com\/channels\/4929957\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Way We Roll<\/a>,&nbsp;a podcast that looks into disability, has&nbsp;<strong>Tanni-Grey Thompson<\/strong>&nbsp;as a recent guest. She talks about her career, her experiences in the Lords and plays a game of \u2018Snog Marry Avoid\u2019 with front bench politicians.<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.podfollow.com\/tales-from-the-tannoy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tales from the Tannoy<\/a>,&nbsp;a great little podcast that looks at the anonymous voices you hear every day in places from transport to radio stations, this week features the station voice of Capital Xtra,&nbsp;<strong>Rio Attoh-Wood<\/strong>. He talks about his feelings in the wake of&nbsp;<strong>George Floyd\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;death and inequality within the industry:&nbsp;<em>\u201cI\u2019m not saying there are no opportunities for black people at all, I\u2019m living proof that there is. But you do a hell of a lot. There\u2019s a lot of hurdles to leap.\u201d<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re always interested in the guests that you have coming up on your podcast, so all you need to do is&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/greatbritishpodcasts.com\/guests\" target=\"_blank\">fill in this short form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are our podcast recommendations for this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1516471271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The British Broadcasting Century with Paul Kerensa<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; I am a bit of a British broadcasting and television nerd (everyone who reads this email:&nbsp;<em>\u201cwe know\u201d<\/em>). So this podcast, that looks into radio\u2019s 100 year history with real depth and insight, is ideal for anyone who is too. What you\u2019ll learn is how this technology, that so many of us rely on every single day, is down to the pioneering work of very few people, many of whom (with the exception of&nbsp;<strong>John Reith<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Marconi<\/strong>) you would have never heard about before. Don\u2019t expect the BBC to come up in the first few episodes either, there\u2019s an awful lot of history before you hear the pips for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1457730733\" target=\"_blank\">Obsessed with\u2026 I May Destroy You<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; Lockdown has also resulted in us watching a lot more television than usual (I am not complaining). One of the standout television series this year has been&nbsp;<strong>Michaela Coel\u2019s<\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episodes\/m000jyxy\/i-may-destroy-you\" target=\"_blank\">I May Destroy You<\/a>, which not only tackles issues of sexual consent in an honest and thought provoking way, but also manages to be a love letter to friendships, the cities we live in and accepting our flaws. The BBC has launched an accompanying podcast for fans of the show, delving into each episode and exploring the issues connected to it. Guests include&nbsp;<strong>Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff<\/strong>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/gal-dem.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gal-Dem<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Tolani Shoneye<\/strong>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1177040764\" target=\"_blank\">The Receipts Podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/the-offcuts-drawer\" target=\"_blank\">The Offcuts Draw<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; We all have had ideas that we have never followed through with (when I was at BuzzFeed I had an unfinished post called&nbsp;<em>\u201cWhat If We Replaced All The News Presenters With Dogs?\u201d<\/em>). In this podcast&nbsp;<strong>Laura Shavin<\/strong>&nbsp;interviews well-known writers about their abandoned projects and the reasons why they didn\u2019t finish them. Some of these stories are entertaining, but it is also an interesting way into discussing the creative process and how failure is a necessary step to a later success. Recent episodes have included&nbsp;<strong>Arabella Weir<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Jenny Colgan<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>David Quantick.<\/strong><br><br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1492068617\" target=\"_blank\">NSPCC Learning Podcast<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; There is obviously a lot of concern at the moment about how schools, children\u2019s services, health care services and social care are going to resume all of their services following the lockdown. The children\u2019s charity has launched a special little podcast series, featuring some of the concerns parents might have and the adjustments schools have taken in response.<br><br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1517382694\" target=\"_blank\">The Adventures of Brian Hovis<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; And finally, if you are a fan of ridiculous storytelling and quick fire gags, this new series by&nbsp;<strong>Hywel Evans<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Russell Gomer<\/strong>&nbsp;is for you. It\u2019s one of those comedy podcasts where the story doesn\u2019t really matter, it\u2019s the jokes that (constantly) happen along the way.<br><br>If there\u2019s a podcast that you think we should be including,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/greatbritishpodcasts.com\/suggest\" target=\"_blank\">let us know<\/a>&nbsp;by filling in the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also been a big week in radio, with the launch of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/radio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Times Radio<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The radio station from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Times and The Sunday Times<\/a>&nbsp;features&nbsp;<strong>John Pienaar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Matt Chorley<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;Mariella Frostrup<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Calum Macdonald<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Aasmah Mir<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Stig Abell<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Luke Jones<\/strong>&nbsp;and others as presenters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also intriguing as existing Times podcasts, such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1501716010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stories from Our Times<\/a>, will also have a radio airing in addition to being available on demand. It\u2019s an interesting method of podcast distribution, and how integral audio is now seen to be integral in selling printed journalism.
