Ali"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Women\u2019s World Cup kicked off this earlier week, so let\u2019s look at some podcasts that will be covering the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the latest on the tournament, <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/womenspod\"><strong>The Athletic Women\u2019s Football Podcast<\/strong><\/a> has just launched a World Cup edition, fronted by Michelle Owen and The Athletic\u2019s own reporters. There\u2019s also <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1632047182\"><strong>The Guardian Women\u2019s Football Weekly<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>hosted by The Guardian\u2019s football writer Suzy Wrack and sports broadcaster Faye Carruthers. Carruthers is clearly going to have a busy few weeks, as she\u2019s also on <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/womens-football-weekly-podcast\"><strong>The Women\u2019s Football Show Podcast<\/strong><\/a> by TalkSport. And there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/261291929\"><strong>Football Daily<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>by Radio 5 Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1617983760\"><strong>Jill Scott\u2019s Coffee Club<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>you can hear interviews with well known football players and athletes, including Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman and Dame Kelly Holmes. And there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1654074926\"><strong>After The Whistle: An Unofficial World Cup Show<\/strong><\/a>, fronted by Rebecca Lowe and Brendan Hunt (from Ted Lasso!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also recommend the podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/quite-unsuitable-for-females\"><strong>Quite Unsuitable for Females<\/strong><\/a>. Women\u2019s football was banned in 1921, with an FA directive saying that<em> \u201cthe game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged.<\/em>\u201d It was only in 1971 that the ban was lifted. It might get featured in this newsletter!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/firecrotchnormcore\"><strong>They Like To Watch <\/strong><\/a><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>Now that Succession has come to an end (don\u2019t worry, no spoilers) the popular Firecrotch &amp; Normcore podcast, hosted by the broadcaster Geoff Lloyd and the comedian Sara Barron, has reinvented itself to explore the world of television with a similar level of obsession. Their first episode featured an interview with Black Mirror\u2019s creator, executive producer Charlie Brooker and Bisha K. Ali, who co-wrote a (completely fantastic) episode called Demon 79.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charlie and Bisha both talked about their collaboration, what Netflix thought of the streaming service Streamberry (and why it wasn\u2019t their first choice) and emetophobia, which is the fear of vomiting. A real range of topics, there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-podfollow wp-block-embed-podfollow\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Firecrotch &amp; Normcore: THEY LIKE TO WATCH\" width=\"100%\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-top-navigation\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1589742577\/embed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/onthemend\"><strong>On The Mend with Matt Willis &#8211;<\/strong><\/a> Matt Willis, from the band McBusted, has started a new mental health podcast talking with notable names about how they were able to navigate choppy waters. In the first episode he chats to his friend Dougie Poynter from the band McFly, who he has known since the age of 15, who talks about being in recovery and his two experiences in rehab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dougie\u2019s hope is that by talking about his experiences, he can help change perceptions: \u201cBoth times I felt they were huge life-changing things. They were the worst times in my life and the best, for some reason. I still reference my last stint in rehab whenever I\u2019m not feeling quite right,\u201d he says. \u201cI was in the safest place.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know he was nervous about talking about his stuff, but there\u2019s something about owning your narrative, that I think is really really powerful,\u201d says Willis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-podfollow wp-block-embed-podfollow\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"On The Mend\" width=\"100%\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-top-navigation\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1697309091\/embed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1696628953\"><strong>Oh What A Time\u2026<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>There\u2019s been an unstoppable rise of history podcasts. This new addition, presented by podcaster Chris Scull and the comedians Elis James and Tom Craine, takes this format in a slightly different direction. Using a mixture of wit and research, they explore the history of marriage, holidays and fashion, all around the central question <em>\u201cwas the past as awful as it sounds?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first episode looks back at the history of fashion, starting with why not all Romans wore togas. It turns out only the richest ones did, who were immortalised in statues, hence why we think they all were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-podfollow wp-block-embed-podfollow\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oh What A Time...\" width=\"100%\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-top-navigation\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1696628953\/embed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/podfollow.com\/1696567043\"><strong>The Banksy Story<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>Why has Banksy become a household name whilst other graffiti artists hardly get a mention? It must be more than just the fact that very few people know exactly who&nbsp; he is. In this new ten-part series, superfan James Peak charts his rise, by speaking to people who love him, have worked with him or have stumbled across him working by accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, making a series about Banksy doesn\u2019t come without obstacles.&nbsp; \u201cBanksy is entirely anonymous and he doesn\u2019t confirm or deny anything,\u201d says Peak in the opening episode. \u201cSo verifiable facts are few and far between.
